The Lawn to Nature sale for 2024 has ended. Pick up of all orders will be at the Latodami Nature Center barn on Saturday, April 27th from 9am - 12pm.
Latodami Nature Center has partnered with the North Area Environmental Council to bring you the Lawn to Nature kit and spread the word about conservation on the local level. Lawn to Nature encourages members of our community to convert 100 square feet of ecologically deserted lawn space into a habitat including native plants fit to support our native wildlife.
Why Lawn to Nature?
Food and habitat for wildlife
Runoff absorption and flood mitigation
Less money and effort long-term compared to mowed lawn space
And more!
Watch Ken Knapp and Leah Fulton of Latodami as they explain why lawn conversion is so important and how you can join the movement in this recorded presentation.
Visit the Lawn to Nature demo garden!
Visit the Latodami Nature Center to view our Lawn to Nature demonstration garden, put in by Girl Scout Gold Award recipient Jeanelle.
Watch as the garden establishes and matures over the next couple of years, and admire the succession of flowers and their visitors. To find the garden, look for the smaller “owl” barn to the left of the large barn. Take the stairs or the gravel slope down to the garden fenced in along the east wall. Read the painted stepping stones to learn more about each of the flower species featured, and some of the other ways to make your property more wildlife friendly.
